63 mile Off Road Bicycle Race with 11,000 feet of Climbing

Attention: Old 70 is officially closed!

The owner of the property at the top of Old 70 has decided to revoke his permission to the Forest Service for use of Old 70 near Black Mtn and the top of Mill Creek Rd. The ORAMM will use Mill Creek past the geyser twice now- actually adds up to more mileage and more dirt, so that's a
good thing in my mind for the race. Keep in mind to use this route for future use of Kitsuma. You are trespassing on Private Property if you use the upper portion of Old 70 and there may be legal consequences if you are caught on this property.

The Off Road Assault on Mount Mitchell is a 63 mile mostly off road bicycle route which has 11,000 ft of accumulated climbing. From Old Fort you climb over the Blue Ridge Parkway two times and just below Mount Mitchell on beautiful Forest Service roads and unbelievable N.C. singletrack. There are fully stocked rest stops approximately every ten miles. You can also send anything you wish to any of the rest areas with our staff. Mt. Mitchell peaks at 6684 ft and is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. The town of Old Fort where you start and finish sits at around 1400 ft. Most of the climbing is on Forest Service Roads while most of the singletrack points downhill.

Rest Stops: There are 5 rest stops including a finish line party. Approx. every ten miles you will reach a rest stop. You will be glad to see Rest stop #3 after climbing 9 miles up Curtis Creek Rd to get to it. You may shuttle anything you want to any of the 5 rest stops on the course. Be prepared to label and bag up your personal items by 7:30am. Rest stops are stocked with H2O, Gatorade, Power Bars, Hammer Gels, Fruits, PB&J sandwiches, and lots of encouragement from our rest stop personal!* Mandatory Cutoff Times this Year! You Must finish before Dark!*

Do Not underestimate the Extreme Difficulty and Danger of this Event!

The course is extremely demanding and travels over rugged terrain with extreme elevation changes. The forest remains in its natural habitat. It is not uncommon to see wildlife such as wildcat, black bear, or rattlesnake. Be prepared to cope with any circumstances!! Please Note that Firearms are not permitted in certain areas! Aid Stations will help with Safety matters, but it is the competitor's ultimate responsibility to insure his or her own saftey. A few course related facts are the 63 miles ride has been completed in just over 5 hrs. Many riders have retired their biking efforts after competing in this race. This is not your typical XC race. It is endurance at its finest. Regardless of how you finish, this is the most exciting MTB adventure race in the entire Southeast!!

Finish Party: Each Rider will receive a pasta/salad feast at the finish line party at the finish line.
